Race Report
2008 SXC MTB Series: Race 3 Fyrish
25 May 2008
It was a good day for the HCC with riders
in two events, Paul in the Elite category and myself in the fun group, although with the number of DNF’s it wasn’t obviously that
much fun. The weather was scorching,
which made the hilly climbs interesting as people tended to set off at full
tilt, only to run out of steam on the inclines. I think everybody would have
enjoyed the technical single track descents as they were very similar to the terrain
in the grounds. In fact I think a lot of the riders in Stornoway are probably
more technically able due to the harder riding on our single track. Paul was
fantastic in the race coming second, and it was a great learning curve for me.
Second in the race against a varied bunch of riders, but it gave me an idea of
what’s required for the Sports category, which I have entered fro
I thoroughly recommend getting the youngsters across to race as they really stand a chance of doing well judging by the ride we had after the Gazette photo shoot. Also the rest of the club would do well to enter once in a while as it is great for the skills etc, plus doing stuff like the bottles for Paul all helped understand pacing and preparation needed before and during the races.
