Race Report
2010 SXC MTB Series: Race 2 Contin

25 July 2010

Paul made a strong return to form in the SXC round two at Contin on Sunday the 25th of April. The event was well attended in all categories, with the course running dry on the day. The course itself was drawn up by Andy Russell of Team Square Wheels, so there was plenty of hard climbing followed by natural flowing single-track descents through woodland.  Paul looks to have regained his enjoyment of off roading which was evident with his growing performance on the day.  After a steady start he worked his way to fifth place by lap three of five and steadily gained ground over the final two laps to finish strongly in fifth.

The course seemed to take its toll on riders from all categories, with lots of withdrawals due to punctures in the first two laps. I must say it is very frustrating watching a race, as apposed to taking part, buts that’s what you get for playing rugby 6 weeks before the season starts! It was a good day for my Square Wheels team mates – especially Gordon Bathgate, who after minimal training finished 2nd in the Masters race.

Next round is in Aberfoyle in May, which is traditionally a tough race, which should suit Paul, so fingers crossed for his continued return to form.
